Second Draft

Everyday most people including me and you(readers) do SNS such as Facebook, Twitter, Kakao Story. They upload their pictures when they travel, when they change their hair style and want to show it to others, when they see attractive something and want to share it. Also, they meet their old friends by expanding their SNS friends. They share their feelings, information with others by SNS. However, we usually forget how powerful SNS is because we are too used to SNS to realize its power. Now, I want to ask one question to you. Is SNS one of tools that marketers should consider?
This question may seem hard to answer immediately. If you think it is hard to answer, then let's think about SNS' power. How much power SNS has? If you think the power of SNS at first, it will be more easiler than before to answer my question. Then, you may have answer about this which can be yes or no. The answer can be various according to readers. However, my answer to this question is "yes". Since we consider the situation where the influence of SNS becomes more and more powerful, during marketing, SNS is a tool that marketers should consider.

Nowadays, it is not difficult to see people who do SNS. Even if someone does not, his or her friends, families do SNS. Almost ten years ago, there were not so many people who do SNS. However, since the technology has been developed and computers, smart phones are distributed qucikly, people are easy to meet their friends on SNS. There is no one who denies the idea that SNS is pervaded out life deeply. Although SNS is so much pervaded, people don't realize its importance and influence to our life. We are too used to SNS to realize its value. In this essay, I want to reveal SNS's importance and its influence to marketing . There are many benefits when marketers consider SNS such as brand recognition, community, repeat exposure, authority, influence, website traffic, ahead of the curve, mindshare with Lurkers, competitive advantage, big wins). After showing SNS's importance on marketing, I want to persue people why SNS must be necessary to marketing. Through this process, I want to make people realize the imporance and influence of SNS to marketing. Marketers and people who want to be marketers will consider SNS more and more. They do their job in more effective ways by considering SNS. If people ignore my argument, especially they are marketers, they really lose a lot of chances to success and they only make an obstacle to their success. Even he or she is already named marketer, he or she loses advantages to much success.

Perhaps one of problems I have to solve in classical argument is that "Is SNS really necessary?".
It may seem that there are other ways in marketing except SNS. It is fact, but other ways(except SNS) are hard to make effective results. Since we consdier that facebook users are increased in geometry progression (2004 only 1 million of people do facebook and 2011 835 millions of people do facebook, from http://bmimatters.com/2012/04/10/understanding-facebook-business-model/ ), there is no difficulty to say almost all people in the world are connected to SNS nowadays. (If he or she is one of SNS users, he or she is connected directly. Even if he or she is not one of SNS users, his or her friends, families do SNS, so they are also connected SNS indirectly). After realizing current status that shows how many people use SNS, I want to explain why SNS should be necessay to marketing.
Then let's check the definition of marketing. Marketing is the organization of the sale of a product, for example, deciding on its price, the areas it should be supplied to, and how it should be advertised.( from Collins Cobuild Advanced Learner's English Dictionary6th Edition © HarperCollins Publishers 2009).
According to this definition, marketing decides where products should be advertised. Then where should it be advertised? I think the place should be where could make the sale of products increasing, and I think that place must be SNS. The reason is simple, because almost all people around world are connected to SNS so it is very easy to expose one's products to customers. Furthermore, much exposure really pays off in areas of marketing. The study of over 1500 consumers by market research firm Chadwick Martin Bailey and iModerate Research Technologies found that 60% of Facebook fans and 79% of Twitter followers are more likely to recommend those brands since becoming a fan or follower. And an impressive 51% of Facebook fans and 67% of Twitter followers are more likely to buy the brands they follow or are a fan of.  When we consider the situation that I mentioned ( the number of facebook(SNS) users is increased very quickly), we can assume how much effect SNS has.
Until now, we think about the SNS in case of customers. Then now check its necessity in case of marketers. According to emarker (from
http://www.emarketer.com/Article/Marketers-Look-Integrate-Email-Social-Mobile/1008740)
the most part that marketers focus on is facebook marketing programs(39%). Facebook is just one example of so many SNS. When we only look at one exaple of SNS, it is most important part that marketers focus on. Then let's think whole impotance of SNS including facebook. It should be very very very important. So now I can say SNS is necessay to marketing not only in case of customers, but also in case of marketers. When people think my argument on the surface, it may be not easy to agree with. However, after realizing current status about SNS, people have no difficulty to agree with my opinion because SNS is so powerful and influential to both customers and marketers.

It is true that there are some people who don't agree with my opinion. They believe there are other marketing ways which aren't related to SNS. For example, except SNS there are many media such as television, newspapers. However, according to the School of Business, Empirica Research, and StyleCaster Media Group, just icon of SNS affects people's decision when they do shopping. What I mean is that only mark of SNS is involved in people's behavior. When we consider that only icon of SNS affects people, how much SNS' effect when marketers consider it deeply during marketing process.
They also may say that just ten years ago, SNS is not so much distributed and marketers didn't care about it like today. Therefore, past marketing was not so much related to SNS and made a big success. When we consider this fact, SNS is not always necessary to successful marketing. However, I can obviously sure that in areas of marketing, past is not much important like present. Marketing is always quicksilver strategy. Since we consider that between ten years ago and now there are so many differences in all areas of our life especially about IT(Internet, computers, smartphones, SNS). When we consider this feature of marketing, we can say that in marketing, current status is much important than the past cases. Also current status always shows that SNS is very very important and becomes more and more popular and powerful. Therefore, today's marketers should consider SNS to make more effective results.

Just 10 years ago, it was hard to see people who did SNS. Computers might be distributed widely (even though not as much as present), but there were no such as a  'smart phone.' When we consider that nowadays, we do SNS by using computers, and mostly by using smart phones, we can assume that 10 years ago, SNS was not so much popular and  it might be seem non-existent. Therefore, in the past, SNS was not important in marketing. However, today's situation is much different from the past. Since the IT technology has been developed very quickly, and computers, smart phones distributed very widely and quickly, it is easy to people who have computers or smartphones and do SNS through these devices. We can say that most people are connected to SNS nowadays. Even if someone doesn't do SNS, (he or she might be seem not connected to SNS at first, but he or she also connected to SNS, because his or her friends, families do it and tell him or her about SNS). When marketers consider this situation( most people are connected to SNS directly or indirectly), there is no hesitate to marketers in that they should consider SNS during marketing process. Then, let's talk about how this essay will influence readers. I accept that its influence is not amazing and some people may think this essay's topic is very natural. They may feel any suprise from this essay. However, someone who did think that there are many ways(except SNS ) to be a successful marketing can realize today's tendency(SNS is indispensable in areas of marketing) more accurately. What I want to say at the conclusion part of my essay is that my essay may be unreasonable when it is applied to past, or very far future, because marketing is very quicksilver strategy. However, in present situation, I can sure that my topic(during marketing, SNS is a tool that marketers should consider) is reasonable and can be good advice to marketers or people who want to be marketers. Thank you.

Research 11/7 - School of Business Study Finds that Facebook and Twitter Symbols Subconsciously Influence Online Buying Decisions

School of Business Study Finds that Facebook and Twitter Symbols Subconsciously Influence Online Buying Decisions

My Topic:
During marketing, SNS is a tool that marketers should consider.

What I hope to learn from this source:

Even if one doesn't see any thing on SNS, just its icon affects people's decision when they do shopping. SNS' icon induces people to buy the products.

Notes:

The display of a social media icon such as a Facebook “Like” button or a Twitter symbol on a shopping website increases the likelihood that consumers will buy some products, and reduces the likelihood that they will buy others.

“Our study finds that the mere presence of social media icons on a web page where we shop appears to cause us to feel as if our purchases are being watched by our social network, and we adjust our buying decisions accordingly,” said Claudia Townsend, an assistant professor of marketing at the School of Business, who conducted the research with Emperica’s David Neal. “Marketers should be aware that the placement of these symbols in their web design strategy could have a major impact on buying behavior.”

  • When the product was one for which public consumption is desirable (e.g., sportswear or a desirable fragrance) the presence of the Facebook and Twitter icons made people 25 percent more likely to purchase. But when the product was more private in nature (e.g., Spanx, Clearasil), the icons suppressed purchase intentions, also by 25 percent.

  • The impact on intended buying behavior emerged regardless of whether people had any memory of having seen the social media icons. This suggests that these symbols have penetrated people’s unconscious processes and can influence decisions and behavior in ways that may bypass our awareness and ability to control.

Final Thoughts:

Before I read this article, I only think that SNS marketing is effective when people see the promotion of products on SNS. However, even if they don't see it, just SNS' icon induces them to buy the products.

What I hope to learn from this source:

According to this research, we can know how influential SNS is. SNS is involved in people's decision when they do shopping.

Considering Facebook’s over 400 million users, the opportunity is great for social media marketers.

Final Thoughts:

SNS is involved in people's decision when they do shopping. It induces people to buy products. Furthermore, people who buy the products are likely to promote their products to others, so other people are also induced to buy products. This cycle is very helpful to products' sales volume. As we can see from this research, SNS is really helpful to marketing.
